Hey, hey. I’m Scott, the guy behind ‘Sleep, Slumber, & Snooze.’
I should probably start off saying that I’m not a doctor. Nor am I a sleep specialist. And I definitely don’t want to call myself a sleep guru. I’m just a guy whose wife was having a really tough time catching those much-needed Z’s. And, because I love her and worry about her, her tossing and turning night after night meant I was right there alongside her—eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, both desperately seeking blissful slumber.
What I AM, however, is a keen researcher and an equally passionate writer and teacher.
So, in that desperation of our nightly struggles, I embarked on a mission to uncover the secrets of sleep. I thought it was simple enough: we just needed to know the basics of how to get better sleep so that we could more productive, happier, and ready to take on the world.
So, there I was, starting like any Internet-savvy person would, cheerfully typing away into the search box: “10 ways to sleep better.” As you may have already discovered yourself, the internet is overflowing with tips, tricks, and hacks for a better night’s sleep. It’s overwhelming enough to keep you awake all night!
But, here’s the kicker—you might need just one or two to find your sleep “sweet spot.”
The answer to that burning question, “What do we have to do to wake up energized, pain-free, and ready for the day?” wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped. Solutions that were a homerun for me fell flat for my wife, and vice versa. So, this wasn’t just a deep dive—it was personal.
And that’s what makes “Sleep, Slumber, & Snooze” different from any run-of-the-mill sleep site.
I learned a lot, I’m still learning, and guess what? I’m loving it. The process of sleeping—or often, losing sleep—is not only incredibly interesting, but vital to our overall wellbeing. But, what fascinates (and annoys) me most is how something that should be as simple, natural, and instinctive as sleep can be such a fickle friend.
In this space, I’m not here to play doctor. I’m here to share a journey. “Sleep, Slumber, & Snooze” is an honest, no-nonsense account of what I’ve learned, and what I continue to discover. It’s about the unique, eye-opening (or eye-closing) paths to quality rest. Think of it not as medical advice, but as stories and insights from someone just like you, navigating the nuanced world of sleep.
Debunking Sleep Myths: The Research Begins
When I first started diving into the world of sleep, I thought a simple Google search would do the trick. I looked up, “10 ways to sleep better.” But, sleep is not just a list you can check off; it’s a complex experience that is supremely personal.
The cookie-cutter sleep advice you often find online didn’t quite fit the bill for us. That’s when the real work began. I started digging into studies, articles, and forums, quickly realizing that everyone’s sleep needs are like a fingerprint — while we all have them, each is unique and specific.
Talking to our doctor shed some light, but it also highlighted a significant gap: the link between our health and sleep is often downplayed or overlooked, which is ironic given how vital sleep is to our well-being.
Confronting the complexities of sleep turned my casual interest into a kind of quest, during which I learned about issues like insomnia, circadian rhythms, and how even your mattress can be a friend or foe in the world of Z’s.
I’m still on that journey, constantly learning and surprised by both how fascinating and how elusive a good night’s sleep can be. This exploration isn’t just an academic exercise; it’s about finding insights that we can take action on, and make a real difference in our lives.
Beyond the Bed: More than Just Sleep Tips
Now you know a bit about me, and the mission behind “Sleep, Slumber, & Snooze”: It’s not just about offering sleep tips; it’s about sharing my personal quest to make good on those interrupted Z’s.
I’ve learned that improving your sleep quality is a multidimensional challenge. What works for me may not work for you. That’s because we’re dealing with the unique interactions amongst our health, diets, genetics, work habits, and stress levels.
I created “Sleep, Slumber, & Snooze” as a space to share these findings, hoping that they will resonate with you as they have with me and my family. However, it’s important to remember that I’m walking this path as an enthusiast, not as a medical expert.
This site is my way of inviting you to explore your own sleep journey with an open mind. Examine the multiple facets that make up your nightly rest, share your experiences, and maybe together we’ll all learn something new that will improve our sleep and our lives.
